Assistant Professor in Modern Greek and Comparative Literature

The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Departments of Classical Studies and Comparative Literature have been authorized to make an appointment in Modern Greek Studies at the entry level (tenure-track Assistant Professor) beginning September 1, 2020. This is a university-year appointment.

The candidate should be qualified to teach Modern Greek language and culture and comparative literature and to fully participate in the activities of both departments. Expertise may range from literature, theory, and cultural studies to studies in performance, film and new media, translation, visual culture, heritage, and classical receptions. Preference will be given to candidates whose published work indicates cross-disciplinary links between Modern Greek and wider geographical contexts such as the Mediterranean, Balkans, Middle East, and diasporic communities worldwide. The person who fills thispositionwill hold a joint appointment in Classical Studies and Comparative literature, be actively involved in the existent Modern Greek Program, teach a 2-2 load and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and be engaged in defining the place of Modern Greek Studies in both of these units.

Promise of excellence in teaching and research will be the principal selection criteria. In addition, demonstrated leadership or an interest in program building and development are highly desired. Princeton University: Lecturer in Modern Greek Language and Culture

The Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University invites applications for a one- to three-year term (renewable), full-time or part-time, Lecturer, to begin September 1, 2019.

The length (up to three academic years) of the initial appointment will depend on teaching needs and the successful candidate's credentials. Responsibilities include teaching courses in modern Greek language at the introductory, intermediate and/or advanced levels, aiming at linguistic proficiency, as well as transcultural fluency and intellectual engagement with modern Greek culture. A joint appointment with an academic department may be possible and there may be opportunities for additional teaching in the successful candidate's discipline. Teaching load will depend on enrollments; some academic administrative duties will be assigned, to assist the Seeger Center Director and the Program in Hellenic Studies Director in their respective areas of responsibility. Lectureship in MG language and culture, University of Illinois

The Department of the Classics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time 9-month, non-tenure track appointment at the rank of Lecturer in the area of Modern Greek language and culture, with a start date of August 16, 2019. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Modern Greek, Classics, Comparative Literature or in an immediately relevant field by June 1, 2019 and must be fluent in Modern Greek language. The successful candidate will be expected to teach six courses. They will include Modern Greek language at the beginning and intermediate levels as well as courses on Greek culture, ancient and modern, and/or on the reception of Classics. The ability to lead a study abroad program to Greece is desirable, but not required. Salary is commensurate with qualifications. Lectureship in Modern Greek History at Royal Holloway, University of London

Applications are invited for a three year fixed-term post of Lecturer (Teaching & Research) in modern Greek History funded by the Greek Ministry of Culture & Sports and the A. G. Leventis Foundation. Candidates will normally have completed a PhD in modern European History and be able to demonstrate a developing record of publications. The candidate will be expected to teach modern Greek history, contributing also to wider teaching on the history of Modern Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as transnational and diaspora studies. They will also contribute to core undergraduate teaching in the History Department and to modern European MA teaching. They will, additionally, participate in the Department's admissions activities and its public engagement work. This is a full-time post to begin 01 September 2019. The Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University invites applications for a one-year (renewable) full-time lecturer position in Modern Greek Studies, to begin September 1, 2018.   A joint appointment with an academic department may be possible.
 
Duties include: (a) Teaching two courses in Modern Greek Studies: one course in the fall 2018 at Princeton and a second course in spring 2019, while in residence in Athens; (b) Assisting the Director of the Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies year-round with the administrative work of setting up and managing Princeton's Study in Greece program at the Princeton Athens Center, as well as other Hellenic Studies academic activities in Greece during the 10-month academic year and during the following summer months, assuming successful reappointment.
 
We seek a dynamic early-career scholar with academic training in a humanities or social science discipline and a Modern Greek Studies focus, capable of innovative teaching at all levels from the introductory to the advanced undergraduate level. The position requires someone able to demonstrate the importance and relevance of their field to students and colleagues with interests across the humanities and the social sciences.  Candidates with comparative, cross-disciplinary interests, and a commitment to excellence in their academic discipline and in Modern Greek Studies are encouraged to apply.

Experience in travel-based, on-site teaching at the college level would be an important advantage for this position. Professional background in academic administration and organizational skills within a team-work environment would be a valuable asset for this position.
