Princeton University postdoctoral fellowships

The Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University invites applications for two postdoctoral fellowships: (1) The Hannah Seeger Davis Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Hellenic Studies and (2) The Mary Seeger O'Boyle Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Hellenic Studies. These fellowships are awarded annually on a competitive basis. Scholars in all humanities and social sciences disciplines are eligible to apply. There is one online application form for these fellowships.

BSA 1821 Fellowship in Modern Greek Studies

BSA 1821 Fellowship in Modern Greek Studies (Early Career)

The British School at Athens is pleased to announce the inaugural “1821 Fellowship in Modern Greek Studies”. This three-year (fixed term) Fellowship is tenable at post-doctoral level and is generously supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.

The Fellow will have the lead academic responsibility for delivering the objectives of the BSA research project, Unpublished Archives of British Philhellenism During the Greek Revolution of 1821, carried out in collaboration with the National Library of Greece and as outlined in the Further Particulars.

The Fellowship is tenable for three years from 1 October 2021. The Fellow will be based in Athens and will report to the Director of the BSA and be mentored by Professor Roderick Beaton FBA (King’s College London).

The BSA 1821 Fellow will hold a doctorate in Modern Greek History or a closely related field, will possess editorial skills, advanced reading competence in English and Modern Greek and basic reading knowledge of French and Italian. Normally the BSA 1821 Fellow will be expected to have satisfied all the requirements for her/his doctorate no more than seven years and at least three months before taking up the post.

The salary will be €25,000 per annum, plus health insurance and a modest annual research allowance.

VISITING FELLOWSHIP 2021-2022, BSA

Applications are invited for an Early Career Fellowship at the British School at Athens for 2-3 months in the academic year 2021-22 in any branch of the arts or sciences related to Greece. The Fellowship is non-stipendiary, but accommodation and airfare and reasonable travelling expenses are provided. The Early Career Fellow will be required to submit a report on his/her research and a short general report on their time at the School to the School’s Council.

The Early Career Fellowship is intended to enable people in first post to spend a period of research leave in Greece. It may, for example, be used to enhance a period of sabbatical or research council funded leave. Fellows will be expected to conduct a programme of original research: the appointment carries no further formal obligations, although involvement in the academic life of the School (for example, in the form of a lecture or seminar) is welcomed. The Fellowship may be taken in either the autumn or the spring term in Athens or Knossos.

The Early Career Fellow is offered free accommodation in the Hostel and accommodation is also offered to accompanying spouse/partner, who is most welcome, at a nominal daily rate. The School will pay one return airfare London-Athens.

Applications are invited for a Visiting Fellowship at the British School at Athens for 2-3 months in the academic year 2020-21 in any branch of the arts or sciences related to Greece. The Fellowship is non-stipendiary, but accommodation and airfare are provided. The Fellow will be required to submit a report on his/her research and a short general report on their time at the School to the School's Council.

The Visiting Fellow should be an established scholar who is expected to conduct a programme of his/her own research, give one public lecture at the School and an open seminar as part of the established programme. He/she should also be willing to concern himself/herself with the current students and their work and may wish to contribute additional lectures or seminars as appropriate in discussion with the Director. The most effective time to take the Fellowship is between January and March when the maximum number of long-term students is in Athens and a large number of external events take place.

The Fellow is offered free accommodation in the Visiting Fellow's flat in the Hostel and accommodation is also offered to accompanying spouse/partner, who is most welcome, at a nominal daily rate. Regrettably, children cannot be accommodated in the Hostel. The School will pay one return airfare London-Athens.
