Lecturer in Modern Greek Language and Culture, UCLA

The Department of Classics at the University of California, Los Angeles, has been authorized to make an appointment to a full-time position in the language and culture of Modern Greece at the rank of Lecturer, effective July 1, 2018, with a minimum of three years of funding earmarked for the position.The appointment will be for an initial two-year term, with the possibility of annual renewal thereafter.

This appointment is part of an initiative to build a new center for Hellenic studies, and the successful candidate will teach Modern Greek language at the introductory and intermediate levels, as well as lecture and seminar courses, with readings in translation, on Greek culture and its influence from antiquity to the present. Experience in language teaching will be a primary desideratum; training in ancient and Byzantine Greek will be welcome, but not required, as will expertise in comparative literature, film studies, and other fields relevant to an understanding of Greek culture. We also welcome candidates whose experience in teaching, research, or community service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.

Tenured position in Modern Greek Studies at the University of Michigan

The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Departments of Classical Studies and Comparative Literature have been authorized to make an appointment in Modern Greek Studies (C. P. Cavafy Endowed Chair) at the tenured level (Associate Professor or Full Professor) beginning September 1, 2018.

The candidate should be qualified to teach Modern Greek language and culture and comparative literature and to fully participate in the activities of both departments. Expertise may range from literature, theory, and cultural studies to studies in performance, film and new media, translation, visual culture, heritage, and classical receptions.

Chair of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Amsterdam (Marilena Laskaridis Chair)

An endowed chair in the field of Modern Greek Studies has been established at the University of Amsterdam, on behalf of the Dutch Association for Modern Greek Studies with financial support from the Aikaterini Laskaridis foundation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Cyprus. Princeton: Assistant Professor in Modern Greek Language, Literature and Culture

Princeton University's Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies and the Department of Classics invite applications for a tenure-track position (assistant professor) in Modern Greek Language, Literature, and Culture, to begin September 1, 2017. The successful candidate will be appointed full-time in the Department of Classics, with "associated faculty" status in Hellenic Studies. 

We seek a dynamic and productive scholar of the literature and culture of modern Greece (15th century to the present) who is capable of innovative instruction at all levels, from introductory language courses to graduate seminars. The successful candidate will be able to communicate the importance of modern Greek literature to students and colleagues with interests across the humanities. PhD must be completed by start date.

Teaching Fellowship in Modern Greek Studies at King's College London

The Department of Classics at King's College London is seeking to appoint a Teaching Fellow in Modern Greek Studies, tenable for 10 months from 01 September 2016. The fellow will be expected to contribute to the undergraduate and taught postgraduate teaching in Modern Greek Studies in the Department, as well as carry out administrative and pastoral duties as required by the Head of Department.

Candidates should have expertise in the field, and should have experience of teaching in the area.

Princeton University: Modern Greek Language Lecturer, 2016-17

The Seeger Center for Hellenic Studies at Princeton University invites applications for a full-time or part-time lecturer position, academic year 2016-17, to teach courses in modern Greek language at the introductory and/or advanced levels.

Teaching load and would depend on enrollments. Some administrative duties may be added to the workload. The successful candidate must have graduate training and/or advanced degree in a relevant discipline or field, as well as demonstrated experience as a teacher of modern Greek as a second language at the college level. Harvard University: vacancy for preceptor in Modern Greek

Position Description: The Department of the Classics seeks applications for a preceptor in Modern Greek beginning July 2016. The position is renewable on a yearly basis for up to eight years, based on performance and curricular need.

The preceptor is expected to offer language classes and to undertake administrative responsibilities in the Program of Modern Greek Studies. The successful applicant should be well versed in the issues of teaching Modern Greek as a foreign language, have experience in teaching all levels of the language, have native or near native proficiency in Modern Greek, and must be able to conduct upper level courses in Modern Greek. Specialization in Modern Greek literature, linguistics and culture, or Greek intellectual history and in teaching Modern Greek as second language is highly desirable. A strong doctoral record is preferred.
