MODERN GREEK POST AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN: DEADLINE 1 DECEMBER

The Department of Classical Studies in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks qualified applicants for a full time Lecturer I or III position to begin September 1, 2010. This is a non-tenure track position, which we expect to initially offer for three years. Terms and conditions of employment for this Lecturer position may be subject to the provisions of a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the University of Michigan and the Lecturers' Employee Organization. Duties and responsibilities for this Lecturer I or III position include teaching Modern Greek language classes at elementary, intermediate, and advanced intermediate levels, and helping to create teaching materials to supplement those available. The Lecturer will assist with placing students in appropriate classes. To be qualified for the position as a Lecturer III, candidates should be ready to participate in student advising and engage with the broader work of the program, including liaison with the Hellenic Students Association and curriculum planning and development. A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three courses per semester, or the equivalent in other duties.

Qualified candidates will have experience in teaching Modern Greek as a second language in a college or university environment and at least a M.A. or other advanced degree in a relevant discipline. Desirable qualifications include native or near native fluency in Greek, strong English skills, demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for in-class language instruction, expertise in second-language acquisition and ability to work effectively with the members of the Program. Experience with multi-media and computer-aided language teaching is also desirable.
