Churchill College Cambridge announces the competition for the

Bodossakis Research Fellowship

 in Contemporary Greek History, Comparative Law,

Eastern Mediterranean History, and cognate fields

 

This post-doctoral Fellowship has a tenure normally of two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third. Junior Research Fellowships are appropriate for those at the start of an academic career after completion of a doctorate. Applications open in October 2019 and close on 11 November; the post is expected to be filled from 1 October 2020.

Laskaridis Visiting Research Fellowships in Modern Greek Studies

The Faculty of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam invites applications for three visiting research fellowships in the field of Modern Greek Studies for early- and mid- career scholars who wish to pursue (part of) their research at the University of Amsterdam. For the academic year 2019-2020, 1 fellowship will be offered for a period of 8 months and 2 fellowships for a period of 4 months each.

The fellowships are sponsored by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, which is also the main sponsor of the Marilena Laskaridis Chair of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Amsterdam, held by Prof. Dr. Maria Boletsi. The call is open to projects from all disciplines in the humanities and/or social sciences that engage with aspects of Modern Greek culture and/or history.

These fellowships will be offered annually on a competitive basis and by application. For the academic year 2019-2020 the fellowships will be offered to early- and mid-career scholars (with a Ph.D. not earlier than 2011).  Applicants can apply for either an 8-month fellowship or a 4-month fellowship.

Visiting Fellowship 2018 - 2019

Applications are invited for a Visiting Fellowship at the British School at Athens for 2-3 months in the academic year 2018-19 in any branch of the arts or sciences related to Greece. The Fellowship is non-stipendiary, but accommodation and airfare and reasonable travelling expenses are provided. The Fellow will be required to submit a report on his/her research and a short general report on their time at the School to the School’s Council.

 

The Visiting Fellow should be an established scholar who is expected to conduct a programme of his/her own research, give one public lecture at the School and an open seminar as part of the established programme. He/she should also be willing to concern himself/herself with the current students and their work and may wish to contribute additional lectures or seminars as appropriate in discussion with the Director. The most effective time to take the Fellowship is between January and March when the maximum number of long-term students is in Athens and a large number of external events take place.

 

The Fellow is offered free accommodation in the Visiting Fellow’s flat in the Hostel and accommodation is also offered to accompanying spouse/partner, who is most welcome, at a nominal daily rate. Regrettably, children cannot be accommodated in the Hostel. The School will pay one return airfare London-Athens.

Early Career Fellowship 2018 - 2019

British School at Athens

Applications are invited for an Early Career Fellowship at the British School at Athens for 2-3 months in the academic year 2018-19 in any branch of the arts or sciences related to Greece. The Fellowship is non-stipendiary, but accommodation and airfare and reasonable travelling expenses are provided. The Early Career Fellow will be required to submit a report on his/her research and a short general report on their time at the School to the School’s Council.

 

The Early Career Fellowship is intended to enable people in first post to spend a period of research leave in Greece. It may, for example, be used to enhance a period of sabbatical or research council funded leave. Fellows will be expected to conduct a programme of original research: the appointment carries no further formal obligations, although involvement in the academic life of the School (for example, in the form of a lecture or seminar) is welcomed. The Fellowship may be taken in either the autumn or the spring term in Athens or Knossos.

A.G. LEVENTIS FELLOWSHIP IN HELLENIC STUDIES

The British School at Athens is pleased to announce the A.G. Leventis Fellowship in Hellenic Studies. The Fellowship, funded by the A.G. Leventis Foundation, is tenable at post-doctoral level to support research into the anthropology, archaeology, architecture, arts, environment, geography, history, language, literature, religion and topography of Greece and Cyprus, and related areas, from prehistory to the late 19th century / early 20th century.

The Fellowship is tenable for three years from 1 October 2018.

Normally the Fellow will be expected to have satisfied all the requirements for his/her doctorate no more than five years and at least three months before taking up the post. The salary will be €22,000 per annum.

University of St Andrews: Research Assistant in Modern Greek history

The appointee will be responsible for all archival research relating to the Greek case-study within the project and will be expected to write a sole-authored monograph on an aspect of everyday life/the lived experience of dictatorship under either Metaxas’ or the Colonels’ regimes and to contribute to a co-authored comparative volume on everyday life/the lived experience of dictatorship in Mediterranean Europe. Additionally, the appointee will be responsible for producing and maintaining the project website and will assist the project PI in organising conferences, workshops and other project-related events.

The successful applicant will be a historian of 20th century Greece with a completed PhD in a topic related to the history of the Metaxas or Colonels' dictatorships in Greece or in an aspect of the social/cultural history of 20th century Greece closely aligned to 'everyday life'. S/he should show evidence of both productivity and quality in their own research and must be able to work fluently in both Greek and English. Demonstrable familiarity with the ‘everyday life’ history approach will be an advantage.

This will be a demanding but exciting post, suitable for an experienced researcher with a desire to enhance his/her career.

The position will be for a fixed term of four years from 1st September 2018.
